about

Jonathan wrote this song for Rebecca, and performed it at their wedding reception. It is based on Walt Whitman's, "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking," Rebecca's favorite poem.

lyrics

Night is falling like a leaf,
A sparrow rests,
Her song to send,
Through the mountain paths and streams,
The forest breathes.
Whisper softly, whisper sweet, your name to me.
There in gentle light she waits, my bride to be.

And I will take you as you are,
and you will take me as I am.

Two together, two complete,
Two sparrows bound in memory.
Wild eyes and moonlit wings,
They softly sing.
Notes unfettered, notes that bring the truth to be.
Melodies that raise the dawn and shake the sea.

My mate, she hears me when I call,
and answers swiftly to the sound.

One star I choose from all those rising far above the sea.
May death not haste to sing his carols loud to you and me.
O mad with love, the ocean pushes hard against the beach.
O trembling throat, o hast thou chosen me?
O loud, loud, loud, I call to you my love!
O life that gives us time, to love, love love.
One star I choose, from all those rising far above the sea.
May death not haste to sing his carols loud to you or me.
O mad with love, the ocean pushes hard against the beach!
O trembling throat, o hast thou chosen me?

O loud, loud, loud I call to you my love.
O life that gives us time, to love, love, love.
O mad with love the ocean pushes hard against the beach!
O trembling throat, o hast thou chosen me?
